286 WILL ROGERS return from his round-the-world flight. Both were outstanding Americans and will be greatly missed. Former President Hoover said: "The news of the death in an airplane crash of Will Rogers and Wiley Post has come as a terrible shock to me. I have long known both of these fine Americans and have long been appreciative of their accomplishments. In origin and accomplishment they were typically American, with their careers appealing to everyone appreciative of the pioneer spirit. They were great souls and I feel a sense of deep personal loss in their passing." Governor Lehman of New York, said: "I am deeply shocked and grieved to hear the terrible news. Will Rogers and Wiley Post were outstanding figures in American life. I greatly admired both of them. Probably no men in American had more friends and admirers than they. The whole country will mourn their tragic death." Governor Marland of Oklahoma: "The State will want to give them a memorial, but the State can't add anything to the honors already heaped upon them by the sovereigns and people of the world." MOST POPULAR MAN OP HIS TIME Eddie Cantor: "Will Rogers was probably the most beloved man of our time. He was one man in the entertainment world who more than balanced by his exemplary life any of the scandals involving people of the theatre. He was the most charitable, most tolerant man I have ever known. There wasn't an atom of envy in his system."
